The drive to contribute to Italy\u2019s development and offer new treatment possibilities starts in the local territory. Kedrion announced an investment of approximately \u20ac150 million in the development of the production hub in Bolognana<\/strong>, in the province of Lucca (Italy), located a few kilometers from the main headquarters in Castelvecchio Pascoli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made on the occasion of the ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by, Valentino Valentini, Enterprises and Made in Italy Deputy Minister,<\/strong> as well as local and regional institutions <\/strong>and local parliamentarians.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of the investment is to triple the production capacity of the site<\/strong>, from 1.1 million to 3.3 million liters of plasma processed each year, meeting the growing demand for Immunoglobulins worldwide. The expansion program, called the \u201cBolognana X3 Expansion Program\u201d, <\/strong>involves the construction of a new building dedicated to plasma fractionation, optimizing an available area within the site and using \u20ac120 million of the total \u20ac150 million planned investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remaining \u20ac30 million will be used to improve production efficiency and strengthen the link between the Bolognana hub and the nearby Castelvecchio Pascoli plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project involves the participation of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT)<\/strong>, which granted Kedrion a \u20ac14 million loan<\/strong> through a Development Agreement. These resources are primarily devoted to the expansion of the site and partly to research and industrial development activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, the pharmaceutical sector is the crown jewel of Italian exports, and Kedrion is one of its most representative symbols,\u201d<\/em> said Valentino Valentini, Vice Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy.<\/strong> \u201cTripling production capacity in Bolognana means strengthening Italy\u2019s position within the global value chain of plasma\u2011derived therapies\u2014a highly science\u2011driven segment that is strategically crucial to international health security. This is the kind of industrial policy we stand for: partnerships with companies that have vision, strong local roots, and the ability to compete on a global scale. As a Ministry, we are here to reaffirm our concrete and ongoing commitment to those who are building the country\u2019s industrial future.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe \u20ac150 million investment announced by Kedrion confirms Italy\u2019s strategic role within the global plasma\u2011derived therapies value chain. The creation of a true \u2018Plasma Valley\u2019 in Tuscany represents a concrete example of how innovation, research, high\u2011tech manufacturing and strong local roots can generate growth, highly skilled employment, and new treatment opportunities for patients living with rare and ultra\u2011rare diseases \u2014 while also ensuring national security through the availability of life\u2011saving therapies and critical medicines.<\/em> For this reason, it is essential to support competitiveness through measures that make our country increasingly attractive, for example by overcoming the clawback mechanism and excluding plasma\u2011derived products from capped pharmaceutical expenditure. This would help provide stability to the system and ensure the availability of plasma\u2011derived therapies and continuity of care for patients, in view of the limited supply of plasma and the growing global demand for these treatments,\u201d said Marcello Cattani, President of Farmindustria.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investment timeline calls for approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2028, with the full production regime by 2031.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, at the production site of Bolognana<\/strong>, where about 700 people are employed, all plasma processing phases are carried out and the Company\u2019s main therapeutic specialties are produced, distributed in over 100 countries<\/strong> including the United States \u2013 which is currently Kedrion\u2019s main market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investment will lead to an employment growth of around 300 new jobs<\/strong>, further strengthening Kedrion\u2019s presence in the Lucca region, where the Company was founded and has operated for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From an industrial point of view, the new building will combine advanced automation, digital monitoring systems and innovative processes, with the aim of improving efficiency, quality and control throughout the production chain.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the sustainability<\/strong> front, the program is fully integrated into the Group\u2019s decarbonization strategy<\/strong>, with energy recovery <\/strong>solutions, optimization of water consumption<\/strong> and innovative technologies such as the \u201ccold\u201d production of Water for Injection,<\/strong> significantly reducing the overall environmental impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
