AIP, patient advocacy and a shared commitment to better PID care in Italy

#TogetherForPIDPatients

AIP (Associazione Immunodeficienze Primitive) has become a reference point for people living with Primary Immunodeficiencies in Italy. Under the leadership of Alessandro Segato, President of AIP – Associazione Immunodeficienze Primitive, the association works to promote earlier diagnosis, strengthen collaboration between specialties and ensure that patients across the country receive equitable access to essential therapies.

“After many years of work, we are finally seeing the results of a dialogue that brings everyone to the same table with a shared goal: protecting and improving the lives of people with PID.”
Alessandro Segato, President of AIP – Associazione Immunodeficienze Primitive

Among the initiatives that embody this collaborative spirit are two projects recently launched in 2025, both supported by Kedrion Biopharma through an unconditional grant. Home With You, launched on December 3, 2025, weaves together the voices of patients, donors, clinicians and those involved in the production of plasma-derived therapies. The format highlights how every part of the pathway, from donation to treatment, contributes to the quality of life of people living with PID. In addition, MAPPA collects patient experiences across Italy to better understand needs and gaps in the care pathway. By amplifying the voices of people with PID, the project helps identify where access, support and information can be strengthened.

AIP is also engaged in constructive dialogue with national institutions regarding plasma availability and access to therapies. Segato explains that limited plasma collection could impact treatment continuity for PID patients, reinforcing the need for attention and coordinated planning.

“These are essential therapies for our community, and ensuring their availability is very important for continuity of care.”
Alessandro Segato, President of AIP – Associazione Immunodeficienze Primitive

Segato also emphasises the essential role of plasma donors in this ecosystem. Their ongoing generosity makes it possible to maintain a stable supply of plasma, helping to ensure the availability of treatments and continuity of care for many people with PID.

For many years, AIP and Kedrion have shared a commitment to improving the lives of people with Primary Immunodeficiencies.
