Kedrion Biopharma for Mother’s Day

Nearly every country has set aside a special day to celebrate motherhood. In many parts of the world, Sunday, May 8th is Mother's Day. The birth of a child marks the beginning of a lifelong bond of joy, trust and love, as well as care and responsibility.

While this is true the great majority of time, it is still all too often the case that the circumstances around the expected day of birth are tragic.

An easily preventable medical condition – one controlled and essentially eradicated in the United States, Europe and most of the “developed” world with a simple injection of immunoglobulins – still affects some 300,000 pregnancies each year in less developed countries. Two hundred thousand of these babies will die before or shortly after birth, or suffer irreversible brain injury.

Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN), or Rh disease, results when a mother and her developing child have incompatible blood types. Kedrion Biopharma is committed to helping eliminate this disease worldwide by supporting initiatives like CURhE, the Coalition for Universal Rh disease Elimination; by helping to create and disseminate educational materials worldwide; and by making the necessary prophylactic immunoglobulin accessible to all.

Let’s all work to make Mother’s Day a universally happy one.
