Epateam, an educational campaign to improve the quality of life of patients who have undergone or are waiting to undergo liver transplant, was presented at SITO’s congress, held in Bergamo on May 16th and 17th. SITO, Società Italiana di Trapianti d’Organi, is the Italian Organ Transplant Association. The event was attended by leading liver transplant centers in Italy, relevant scientific communities, and by the National Transplants Center, all of whom commended this initiative, which is sponsored by SITO and benefits from Kedrion Biopharma’s unrestricted support.
With over 1,200 liver transplants carried out each year, and a record-breaking 2016, Italy is one of the countries – in Europe but also worldwide – in which the largest number of these surgical procedures is carried out. All categories of health professionals involved in transplants are the targets of this campaign, as part of which a number of meetings will be organized nationwide in which leading experts, and those doctors who are called daily to take care of patients who have undergone transplant or are eligible for it, will take part. The first of these meetings will take place in June, and another six have been organized for 2017; they will be hosted in the cities in which Italy’s main transplant centers are located. For the first time, all the main aspects liver transplant patient care will be addressed: those specifically related to the transplant procedure, and those pertaining to other medical conditions ranging from aging to mental health.
